DAY 5: FRIDAY APRIL 17TH
I don't know what it is. Some days I can't explain it at all. There's just a heaviness I wake up with and carry through the day. When I'm at my worst I just carry it. I don't even make an effort to "offload it." And some days I try to get rid of it by "powering through" or telling myself to just "suck it up." And while there is something to be said for perseverance in the midst of challenge, I've come to realize this is not the answer. At least not perseverance on my own strength. The answer is resting in the one who has already persevered for my sake. Who died to FREE me from burden. But WE have to let Jesus carry it. It does us no good to have a God who offers to carry our burden and then carry it ourselves. That's like moving a ton of boulders by hand when you have a front loader and a pick-up truck!
So here's a question for you; what burden are you carrying today? And what is keeping you from letting Jesus carry it? We would love for you to share in the comments so we can pray for and encourage you.
Jesus says, "COME TO ME ALL WHO ARE WEARY AND BURDENED, AND I WILL GIVE YOU REST." This is his promise to us. So today, whatever you may be burdened with, GO TO JESUS. Tell him about it. Listen to his voice. And he WILL give you rest!
SCRIPTURE FOR REFLECTION
Jesus said to her,“I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die. - John 11:25
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” - Matthew 11:28-30
Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls. 1 Peter 1:8-9
