The Path: Genesis 21 SOAP Journal
At True North, our passion is for everyone to encounter the life-changing power of God’s Word and experience His overwhelming love. One of the best ways to deepen that connection is through intentional scripture study. This is why we came together to create The Path Journal. This 365-day SOAP journal is designed to guide you through daily scripture, provide space for weekly sermon notes, and offer encouragement along the way. Each week, we’ll feature an entry from a fellow "Pather" to inspire and uplift your journey. This week, we’re diving into Genesis 21:18-19 where we will see God's powerful reassurance.
Scripture
"Up! Lift up the boy, and hold him fast with your hand, for I will make him into a great nation.” Then God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water. And she went and filled the skin with water and gave the boy a drink." Genesis 22:18-19

Observation
Hagar had to be devastated when she was sent away by Sarah and Abraham. Out in the wilderness, no more water, and a little boy who was crying. She left him to die and sobbed...but God heard the boy crying. And when things seemed hopeless, God showed up.
Application
Sometimes we have to get to the very end of ourselves before God answers our prayers. His timing is perfect. He is sovereign. He loves us. He hears our prayers. He hears us cry out to Him.
Prayer
Father, please comfort me, give me patience as I wait for your answers to my prayers.
Trusting in How God Sees, Provides, and Leads
As we reflect on Genesis 21:18-19, we’re reminded that God sees us in our struggles, provides for our needs, and fulfills His promises. Just as He opened Hagar’s eyes to the well, He opens our hearts to His truth when we seek Him. Let this soap journal entry be a daily reminder to trust in His guidance and provision.
Don't know what the SOAP Method is?
SOAP is one of the primary ways to dive deep into scripture and get the most out of our time with the Word. If you don’t know what the SOAP method is, it stands for Scripture, Observation, Application, and Prayer:
Scripture: Physically write out the Bible verse. When writing it down, you are most likely to memorize it and you’re opening up the chance for more to be revealed to through the written words.
Observation: What do you see in the verses you’re reading? Who is speaking? Do you see a theme or something that stands out to you?
Application: How can I apply this to my real life? This is where God’s Word becomes tangible through YOU. What is God saying to you? How can you become more like Him? Are there any changes you could make?
Prayer: Has God revealed something to you during this time that you need to confess OR thank Him for? Do not skip this step! There is power in prayer and this is a great way to complete your reading time.
