Understanding What is SOAP Journaling
SOAP provides a clear and meaningful way to dive deeper into scripture each day. Begin with Scripture, allowing God’s Word to speak directly to you. Move to Observation, noting what stands out and what God might be saying. Next, apply these truths to your life through Application, and finally, engage in Prayer, bringing your reflections before God. This method not only enriches your understanding but also equips you to live out the Word in your daily life.
Diving into John 5

Scripture(s)
“But the testimony that I have is greater than that of John. For the works that the Father has given me to accomplish, the very works that I am doing, bear witness about me that the Father has sent me.” John 5:6

“Afterward Jesus found him in the temple and said to him, “See, you are well! Sin no more, that nothing worse may happen to you.” - John 5:11

“But the testimony that I have is greater than that of John. For the works that the Father has given me to accomplish, the very works that I am doing, bear witness about me that the Father has sent me.” - John 5:36
Observation
The process of salvation is reflected in this man's healing, and what a beautiful thing salvation is.
First, there is God's calling. Revealed in the question, "do you want to be healed." This is the start of salvation for everyone. Jesus calls us through his Spirit, but we must respond.
Second, through God's intervention. Jesus told the man to "get up" and "at once the man was healed." Salvation is instantaneous. The moment we respond, the blood of Jesus finishes it's work in us. We are completely redeemed and transformed.
Finally, salvation leads to sanctification through God's continual pursuit of us. John tells us that "Jesus found him in the temple and said to him... sin no more." There is such an important distinction here. God is saying, "because you have been healed, sin no more, NOT, "if you sin no more, then you will be healed." Salvation is not based on works. It is based solely on the work Jesus did on the cross. But our growth and sanctification is the result of our obedience.
Application
God is pursuing you and me. When he saves us he looks at us and says, "see, you are well - sin no more." I don't have to live in fear of losing my salvation if I sin. BUT, I should be striving to live a TRANSFORMED life. The man didn't continue to wait by the pool after he was healed. He GOT UP and began to walk in his new life. We must do the same.
Prayer
Father, thank you for your calling, intervention, and pursuit of my heart. Help me to fix my eyes on you, to live a transformed life, and to give you the glory.
Renewal through the Word of God
As you journey through scripture and reflect on its truths, know we are here alongside you, as a companion to keep you rooted in God’s Word.
