Culture & Context: Joshua Part 1
Today we will meet Joshua the person, but first take a short trip into Canaan, the land into which Joshua would lead Godâs people.
Historically, this is during the Bronze Age, which ran from circa 3000 BC to 1125 BC. The Macedonian peoples were strongly impacted by the invasion of Greek-speaking people, who brought their culture and their metalworking talents. Their pottery and jewelry became a mixture of Macedonia and Greek influences, while the introduction of copper and

Creation Corner: The Age of Earth?
Last time, we discussed the science that the secular world believes; evolution, the Big Bang and
the 14-billion-year timeline. You might be wondering, âAdam, if the world is not 14 billion years
old, how old is it?â

Culture & Context: Corinth
Itâs time to change gears in our thinking as we shift from the Old Testament and Deuteronomy, to the New Testament and 1 Corinthians. Moses was given a great gift by God- he was brought up onto Mt. Nebo, where God supernaturally showed him all of the Promised Land (which could not normally be seen in its entirety from the mountain) before he died. Their last moments together were a private time between Moses and the Lord, and God or His angels buried Moses in Moab; no human t

Culture & Context: Deuteronomy
Deuteronomy is the last of the first five books of the Old Testament, known as the Pentateuch or Five Books of the Law. Greek and Latin tradition call it the âsecond law,â but it is not secondary in importance. It is a treaty of renewal to the Israelite people as they stand poised on the threshold of the Promised Land. Rather than focusing on ritual and law, Moses places emphasis on the first and second commandments, which would one day become the basis for Jesusâ preaching.

Creation Corner: The Big Bang
The world at large does not believe in the Genesis story of Creation. The world in its denial has had a need to provide itself with an explanation of how the world and all that we see could come to pass without the existence of an all-powerful God. So, what did the world come up with to replace the loving God?

The Path: Culture and Context
Knowing the context of what we are reading along with the culture of the Scriptureâs intended audience are part of exegesis, the practice of discovering the original meaning of a text. The word exegesis means drawing out, from the Greek exÄgeisthai, to lead out. The goal of correct exegesis is to interpret the meaning of the passage as it was intended for its original audience.

Creation Corner: What Was Before God?
This question is important for a Christian to be able to answer. Why? Itâs a question that the secular world often uses against our faith. We ask atheists, âwhat was before the Big Bang?â This is a question they cannot answer. So, they reply by asking what was before God as if this was the same question. In actuality, we do sort of have an answer to this question. Letâs explore.

Creation Corner: What is Creation Science?
Today, I want to touch on the overall concept of creation science. What is it? Why is it important and why should you know anything about it? What sort of topics will I be writing on from time to time and do I need to know a lot of science prior to reading these entries?
