The Path: Genesis 7 SOAP Journal

Did you know the Bible contains 31,103 verses? With so much wisdom packed into its pages, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed when diving into scripture. That’s exactly why we created The Path Journal, a daily SOAP journal designed to guide your reflections with space for scripture study, sermon notes, and encouragement. Whether you're seeking spiritual growth or simply needing structure when studying the Bible, this journal will a great tool that accomplishes both. Today, we’re exploring Genesis 7:23-24 from the viewpoint of a fellow "Pather," reflecting on God’s justice, mercy, and the protection He provides when we trust in Him.

Understanding What is SOAP Journaling

SOAP provides a clear and meaningful way to dive deeper into scripture each day. Begin with Scripture, allowing God’s Word to speak directly to you. Move to Observation, noting what stands out and what God might be saying. Next, apply these truths to your life through Application, and finally, engage in Prayer, bringing your reflections before God. This method not only enriches your understanding but also equips you to live out the Word in your daily life.

Diving into Genesis 7:23-24

Scripture

Genesis 7:23-24 scripture art background true north church
"He blotted out every living thing that was on the face of the ground, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens. They were blotted out from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those who were with him in the ark. And the waters prevailed on the earth 150 days." Genesis 7:23-24

Observation

  • God's power is so great that He can flood the Earth and wipe out every living thing. In this instance, He did it because mankind was rebellious and the sin of the world had become so great that it needed a reset. But here's what's amazing, even though God is JUST to punish us, His MERCY still remains. God could have ended humanity right then and there, but He chose to continue give humanity another chance through Noah. What a great example of both justice and mercy.

Application

  • It's really easy for us to live day-to-day forgetting how powerful our God really is. He doesn't have to give us many years on this Earth. He could end it all tomorrow if He wanted. We must live every day, not only in awe of His power, but in amazement of His grace. Despite how much we rebel, He is so patient with us. And, because of the grace we've been given, we must extend amazing grace toward others.

Prayer

Lord, the closer I draw to you, the more I'm in awe of your power. You are are almighty, God. And what you give me, I don't deserve. Thank you for your amazing grace. Help me to live through that grace all my days. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Living in Awe of God's Power

Genesis 7:23-24 is an intense reminder of both God’s justice and mercy. Our human rebellion led to destruction, yet God, in His grace, chose to save Noah and make a covenant with him. Just as He provided a way for Noah to be saved on the boat, He provides a way for us to be saved, offering redemption, purpose, and new life through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. The Path Journal isn’t just a place for reflection; it’s an invitation to wrestle with God’s Word, stand in awe of His power, and embrace the grace He so freely gives. No matter where you are at in your walk with Christ, may this be a space where you are able to grow deeper in faith, live in gratitude, and trust in the One who holds all things together.
