The Path: Genesis 3 SOAP Journal
From the very beginning, humanity has struggled with the tension between God’s truth and our own choices. The Path Journal was created to help navigate that journey by offering a space for daily scripture reflections, sermon notes, and encouragement to keep you rooted in faith. Whether you’re deepening your understanding of God’s Word or seeking renewal in your spiritual walk, this journal serves as a daily companion for growth. Today, we’ll dive into Genesis 3:7 through the lens of one of our "Pathers," exploring their reflections on this pivotal moment in scripture.
Understanding What is SOAP Journaling
SOAP provides a clear and meaningful way to dive deeper into scripture each day. Begin with Scripture, allowing God’s Word to speak directly to you. Move to Observation, noting what stands out and what God might be saying. Next, apply these truths to your life through Application, and finally, engage in Prayer, bringing your reflections before God. This method not only enriches your understanding but also equips you to live out the Word in your daily life.
Diving into Genesis 3:7
Scripture

Observation
Satan wants us to see sin as something good. And that God doesn't want us to have that thing because he is restrictive and trying to keep us from enjoying it.
The truth is Adam and Eve were given everything, but temptation made them desire more.
Eve thought she was doing something good for herself, but she was deceived. And Adam went right along with it. He knew what he was doing was wrong but he did it anyway.
Once they sinned, shame entered. The way they saw themselves changed.
God came to them already knowing what they had done. He came with patience and care and truth. He called them to repent.
Adam and Eve were disciplined, but then God showed them incredible grace and clothed them. A picture of how Jesus ultimately "clothes" us by his shed blood on the cross.
Application
Sin is NEVER worth it – it might feel good in the moment, but that's all the longer it lasts, a moment. And then we are left with guilt and shame.
In everything we need to let the Holy Spirit guide us to know right from wrong.
And when we do fall short, we need to repent of our sin and allow Jesus to clothe us.
Prayer
God, thank you for loving me through my selfish desires. I pray that I would choose you over anything today. I pray that the Holy Spirit would lead me in my actions and thoughts. Please forgive me for choosing myself over you. Take those temptations away and lead my heart to you.
Embracing God's Grace
Genesis 3:7 is a powerful reminder of our natural instinct to hide in shame when faced with our own brokenness. But just as God sought Adam and Eve in the garden, He still seeks us... offering grace, redemption, and a way back to Him. The Path Journal is more than a tool for reflection, it’s a daily invitation to step out of hiding and walk confidently in His truth. As you continue your own journey, let this be a space where you encounter God’s Word, wrestle with its meaning, and grow deeper in faith.
Need more? We are praying and here for you. Keep journaling, keep seeking, and trust that God is always guiding you forward.
