Creation Corner: The Problem With Evolution

So why doesn’t Evolution work?
To be honest, this is sort of a trick question. To truly know, we need to understand what is meant by evolution. Here’s what you get when you Google the definition:
Evolution:
Noun
1. The process by which animals, plants and other living organisms are transformed into different forms by the
accumulation of changes over successive generations
2. The gradual development of something, especially from a simple to a more complex form
So, if you’ve been reading for a while, you might have seen the first issue with this definition. In a previous post, we discussed Newton’s laws of thermodynamics. Entropy is the term for the gradual break down of all things. Everything trends toward destruction and chaos.
Why would evolution be the only process that trends toward complexity and betterment?
There is nothing else in creation that works that way. Mountains erode, buildings crumble, life dies. Nothing else progresses without active intervention. Mankind has struggled against this for thousands of years. Evolution at its most basic level doesn’t make sense.
“But surely Adam, there is something to this. After all, don’t animals change over time.” Yes, they do, so evolution does exist – in a manner of speaking. Within Creationist circles, we have the terms micro evolution and macro evolution.
Micro evolution is changes within an animal kind to help them be more suited to the environment in which they live. A tiger could develop wider stripes, thicker fur or sharper teeth. It does not morph into a dolphin.
Macro evolution is the changes within an animal kind to become another animal kind. This is something that is not observable and is promoted by secular science without evidence.
Scientists will teach this theory yet have no examples of missing links that are provable. Namely because this transformation cannot be witnessed. There are examples that are given by secular science. These would include the moths in Russia, whales evolving from land animals and Charles Darwin’s finches – but these examples don’t work. The moths and the finches evolved into different moths and different finches. The land animals becoming whales is not observable and skeletal evidence can be interpreted differently depending on your world view.
The other major example is hominid evolution – the evolution of human beings. Scientists bring out fossils of various ancestors of human beings, promote them, get them in books, but – unknown to a lot of the public – these examples of human evolution are often disproved later. Yet this is not well publicized. Let’s look at some examples:
Piltdown man
Per Wikipedia, in 1912, a skull was found belonging to a human ancestor with a large cranium and the jaw line of an ape. For 41 years this was taught as being a real skull. Until, in 1953, it was discovered to have been fabricated from a human skull and the jaw of an orangutan.
Neanderthal
Though taught of as cave men, more recent discoveries show that Neanderthals made tools and were much more advanced than regularly taught. Their barbarian posture was caused by disease, not evolution. In fact, many people today carry the DNA of Neanderthals, showing they were in fact completely human. This is not macro evolution, but variety within the human genome (Source: answers in Genesis).
Nebraska Man
Nebraska Man was named from a single tooth, which was later discovered to be from a pig.
Lucy
Perhaps the most famous of the “human ancestors” is Lucy. Lucy is stated to be an upright ape that was one of the first in the line of humans. Lucy, again, is known from fragments of bone, often pieced together from multiple skeletons and from fossilized footprints which appear to be human but cannot solidly be shown to not be from a normal human being.
In truth, the problem with all of this is that we each bring a different perspective to the science field. If you believe in “human ancestors,” you will more likely see evidence of human ancestors. If you believe in God and His 7-day creation, the “evidence” given won’t seem as convincing.
We take God at His Word and if He says He made man on the 6th day of Creation, we believe it. The Bible tells us:
“I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; wonderful are your works! My soul knows it very well.” -Psalm 139:14
We were not evolved, we were made, beautifully and wonderfully. You are no educated monkey, you are formed in the image of God, who certainly resembles no ape!
Thanks for reading and until next time, keep wondering.
