Understanding What is SOAP Journaling
SOAP provides a clear and meaningful way to dive deeper into scripture each day. Begin with Scripture, allowing God’s Word to speak directly to you. Move to Observation, noting what stands out and what God might be saying. Next, apply these truths to your life through Application, and finally, engage in Prayer, bringing your reflections before God. This method not only enriches your understanding but also equips you to live out the Word in your daily life.
Diving into John 17
Scripture

Observation
Jesus is praying to the Father in this chapter that his life would be glorified and that his disciples would be protected as they take the gospel into the world. Jesus knows how difficult it is going to be, and he wants them to know he understands and is with them.
In verse 20, Jesus extends that prayer to ALL believers.
Jesus also prays for others to see his glory that was given to him because the Father loved him before creation. He is the eternal one. The second person of the trinity, the son of God!
Application
This prayer of Jesus is not just for his disciples- he extended it to us. This prayer is for all believers! It gives us peace to know that at a time that was probably scary for Jesus - he was about to be crucified - he was thinking about us, how amazing is that!? This prayer is also a reminder that we are in in the world, but not of it. That means that while we are called to look differently than the world in the way we think, speak and act, we are still called to reach our world. There is a great temptation to be "of" the world. A question we should ask and reflect on daily is; what are the areas of my life in which I am acting like the world?
Prayer
Lord, thank you for thinking of your children, protecting us, and sending your son for us. Please help illuminate areas of my own life in which I need to dedicate to you, instead of holding onto the things of this world.
Walking as Set-Apart Believers
Jesus' prayer in John 17 is a profound declaration of His love and purpose for His followers, reminding us that we are set apart. While we live in a world full of distractions and challenges, we are called to reflect His glory and live differently. Take a moment to consider areas in your life where you may be clinging to worldly things and surrender them to Him. As you reflect on this prayer, let it inspire you to live boldly as a child of God, protected and deeply loved.
